Becoming Emotionally Intelligent: From Drunk Dialing to Reflection

When heartbroken or confused with matters of the heart, I follow a pattern of mourning. I sob on my pillow 2-3 nights in a row. I call my panas and analyze his words and potential motives for hours at a time. I shower and sob again, the water running down my face and wiping away my tears.

Once dry and tear-free, I regain my strength by reading motivational articles and stories, most recently from Oprah Magazine. Once motivated and inspired, I refocus my attention to my goals and my vision for the future (vision board in tact, of course). Soon, I go to bed and wake up 8 hours later. I open my eyes and notice that my pillowcase is dry. I stretch, inhale and exhale, and begin a new day full of hope and promise.

My renewed positive attitude is also evident to all as I show it in my style of dress and the strut in my walk. Whenever I awaken from an emotional catastrophe, I tend to spruce up my wardrobe, fix my hair, and put on bright red or burgundy lipstick. Take today, for example. I pulled out this dress and felt uber confident as it hugged every Dominican curve of my body. And that, Pepitas, is the best cure for a broken heart.

So if you are ever feeling down, follow my trend. Slip into a beautiful outfit and match it with a great pair of shoes.

Yellow Summer Shoes

I chose yellow as it is the color of optimism, enlightenment, and happiness. One website states that “shades of golden yellow carry the promise of a positive future.” Now, on this new and sunny day, my heart is open.
